Vocabulary plays a pivotal role in IELTS Writing as it accounts for 25% of your overall score under the Lexical Resource criterion. A wide range of vocabulary allows you to express ideas clearly and accurately, which is essential for both Writing Task 1 and Task 2.

To improve your vocabulary, focus on learning synonyms, collocations, and topic-specific words. For instance, if you’re preparing for Task 1, familiarize yourself with terms like “rise,” “fall,” “fluctuate,” and “remain stable” for describing trends. For Task 2, practice using academic phrases like “It is widely believed that” or “This essay will examine….”

However, avoid using overly complex words or phrases you’re not confident with. Incorrect usage can lower your score. Instead, aim for precision and appropriateness.

Joining IELTS coaching in Madurai can help you expand your vocabulary systematically. Many coaching centers offer specialized vocabulary-building sessions and provide lists of high-frequency IELTS words along with their usage in context.
